Focus on quizzes

It has been a week since the last update in this weblog, so here is a short update. After having finished the email invitations system, the last week was focused not on the surveys but on the quizzes.
A number of example quizzes on a variety of topics has been added to the website, which are used as a showcase for what is possible with the quizzes at YouAks.com. A growing number of quizzes is being contributed by users as well. At this pace the number of quizzes created by users will soon outgrow the number of example quizzes.

The email invitations are up and running. It took quite some time to complete this new feature because the address book and support for access keys had to be made.

YouAks.com is online for just over a week now. Since that time there have been some minor changes, a few minor bug fixes.
Most time was spend on marketing the website by fine-tuning online advertisements and in a lesser extent by submitting it to search engines and web directories. There is an article about ideas for using surveys posted on top7business.com.

What is marketing? It's a simple question, but has many different answers. When in need for the definition of a term the easiest way just to enter it in your favorite search engine and pick the definition that you like the best.
For this weblog article I choose the following definitions from BizJobs.com.
Marketing - perceived by lots of business people to mean simply promotion and advertising, the term marketing actually covers everything from company culture and positioning, through market research, new business/product development, advertising and promotion, PR (public/press relations), and arguably all of the sales functions as well. It's the process by which a company decides what it will sell, to whom, when and how, and then does it.
The reason that I chose this definition is because it highlights the fact that many people have an incomplete idea of what marketing is.

According to research from Ernst & Young a quarter of all companies in The Netherlands has a website that does not serve their business interests.
The Netherlands is one of the countries with the highest internet penetration and usage in Europe, yet so many businesses fail to take advantage of it. This is likely also the case in other countries, where even less people use the internet.
This is exactly the problem that YouAks.com aims to address; help businesses take advantage of the internet by measuring the effectiveness of their websites and customer satisfaction in order to improve it.
YouAks.com is open for business

After being developed and tested for several months YouAks.com is finally open for business today, on 18 July 2008.
The original goal was to be online at the beginning of the month, but in the last few months a significant number of features were added that were initially intended to be added after the launch.
Because today is Friday it will be a rather slow start with the weekend coming up giving us some time to get some rest, before the the promoting will start next week.

This is the first posting in the weblog, it is one of the latest additions to YouAks.com and will be used to communicate changes about the website and links to interesting news articles on other websites about online surveys or YouAks.com.
The weblog is still pretty basic at the moment, there is an RSS-feed, but it is not possible to leave comments yet, this functionality might be added in the near future.
